1. Scope and responsible entity
Rodriques Labs LLC ("Rodriques Labs," "we," "us," or "our") provides Food Journal Plus ("FJP"), a food-journaling and general nutrition-awareness product. This Privacy Policy applies to the FJP mobile application; the Food Journal Plus marketing, support, and legal websites; FJP accounts, application programming interfaces, cloud synchronization, backend services, and communications with the FJP team (collectively, the "Services").
This Privacy Policy does not govern the separate Rodriques Labs company website, which has its own privacy policy, or third-party websites and services that FJP does not control.
2. Information handled through the Services
Product websites
When you visit an FJP website, our hosting and content-delivery providers may process limited technical information needed to deliver, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the websites, such as your IP address, request date and time, requested page, browser or device information, referring page, and response status. The current FJP websites do not use advertising trackers, website analytics, behavioral advertising technologies, or tracking cookies. Browser storage may be used for display preferences rather than behavioral tracking.
Local journal information
Core journal information is designed to be stored locally on your device. Information you choose to record may include foods, beverages, supplements, quantities, nutrition values, dates and times, notes, favorites, reminders, nutrition goals, and photographs associated with journal entries or your profile. Information that remains only on your device is not collected by Rodriques Labs.
Account and subscription information
If you create an FJP account, we may process your email address, account identifiers, authentication credentials or tokens, session information, and subscription status. Account creation and use of Cloud Sync are optional and separate from use of the core local journal.
Optional profile and personalization information
If you choose personalized setup or complete the optional nutrition profile, FJP may process information such as your date of birth, activity level, height, weight, units, preferences, nutrition goals, and an optional Sex field with the choices "Female," "Male," or "Prefer not to say." FJP uses that Sex selection only as a calculation reference to select applicable nutrition reference tables; it is not intended as a statement of gender identity. FJP does not currently ask users to provide pregnancy or lactation status.
Cloud Sync
If you create an account and enable optional Cloud Sync, the information you elect to synchronize may be transmitted to systems operated for FJP and processed by service providers acting on our behalf. Synchronized information may include account information, subscription status, optional profile and personalization information, journal entries, nutrition information, reminder definitions, and journal photographs if you separately choose to include those photographs in Cloud Sync. Profile photographs are not currently included in Cloud Sync.
Support communications
If you contact us, we receive your email address and the information you include in your message. Please do not include passwords or sensitive information that is not reasonably necessary to address your request.
Device permissions and technical information
FJP may request camera or photo-library permission for features involving images and notification permission for user-configured local reminders. You can manage these permissions through your device settings. Account and service requests may also involve IP addresses, ordinary request metadata, security information, and compatibility information. FJP does not currently use a persistent platform device identifier for account synchronization.
TestFlight beta testing. During limited internal pre-release testing through Apple TestFlight, Apple and Rodriques Labs automatically collect crash logs and usage data relating to FJP. TestFlight may also provide Rodriques Labs with device and operating-system information and, if a tester voluntarily submits feedback, comments, screenshots, and related technical information. Rodriques Labs uses Beta Testing Data and Beta Feedback received through TestFlight to test, troubleshoot, and improve FJP. Apple separately processes TestFlight information under its own terms and privacy practices.
Except for the TestFlight beta-testing data described above, FJP does not currently use a crash-reporting, diagnostic, product-analytics, advertising, attribution, AI, machine-learning, image-recognition, or OCR SDK. If those practices materially change, this Privacy Policy and applicable app-store disclosures will be updated before the new processing is used where required.
3. How we use information
We may use information to:
- Provide, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the Services.
- Provide the journal, profile, nutrition goals and reference-based guidance, reminders, accounts, subscriptions, Cloud Sync, and other features you choose to use.
- Authenticate accounts, verify subscription status, and protect FJP, its users, and its services.
- Respond to support requests and feedback.
- Maintain compatibility, reliability, and security.
- Comply with legal obligations, enforce applicable terms, and establish, exercise, or defend legal rights.
4. Nutrition and consumer health information
Information you record or provide through FJP, including food and supplement information, nutrition values and goals, body measurements, date of birth, activity level, and related profile information, may be considered consumer health data, sensitive data, or similar protected information under applicable state law. We use this information to provide the FJP features you request, including reference-based nutrition estimates, targets, cues, and optional Cloud Sync.
FJP does not currently import user-specific information from Apple HealthKit, Google Health Connect, fitness trackers, wearable devices, healthcare providers, medical records, or other health or nutrition applications. FJP currently uses nutrition reference data bundled with the app rather than a runtime third-party nutrition API, and it does not currently transmit user-specific information to a nutrition-data provider.
Where required by applicable law, additional disclosures concerning consumer health data, including applicable rights and consent practices, are provided in a separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy made available through the FJP legal website.
5. How information is disclosed
Rodriques Labs does not sell personal information, use personal information for behavioral advertising, or engage in cross-app tracking. We may disclose information to service providers acting on our behalf; to app stores and platform providers as needed for distribution, subscription management, transaction verification, or platform functions; when you direct or authorize a disclosure; to protect rights, safety, or security; in connection with a lawful corporate transaction; or when required or permitted by law.
Service providers may process information only for authorized services and subject to applicable contractual and legal obligations. Cloud hosting and storage providers may process synchronized information only when you enable the applicable cloud feature. FJP does not currently use third-party image analysis, advertising, attribution, product analytics, or runtime nutrition-data providers.
6. Storage, retention, and deletion
Core device-local journal information is stored in encrypted local storage. Information transmitted to FJP services is intended to use encrypted connections, and account-related services are intended to use authentication, access controls, and need-based access restrictions. Production server-side controls are subject to implementation and release verification before the affected services launch.
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing and securing the Services, responding to support requests, maintaining appropriate business records, resolving disputes, preventing fraud or abuse, and complying with legal obligations. Retention depends on the type and sensitivity of the information, why it was collected, the status of your account or subscription, and applicable legal requirements.
Device-local information remains on your device until you remove it, delete the app, use an available deletion control, or the operating system removes it. If you have an FJP account, you may initiate account deletion through the in-app account-deletion control. Rodriques Labs will delete the account and associated information from systems it controls, subject to reasonable processing time, backup limitations, and information that may be retained where permitted or required for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or other lawful purposes. The production deletion flow will provide applicable information about the scope and timing of deletion.
Deleting an FJP account does not itself delete journal information that remains only on your device and does not cancel an app-store subscription. Those are separate actions.
7. Your choices and privacy rights
You can choose whether to create an account, enable Cloud Sync, include journal photographs in Cloud Sync, complete the optional nutrition profile, and grant device permissions. You can manage device permissions through device settings and app-store subscriptions through the applicable store account.
Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have rights concerning personal information we maintain, including rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of information; withdraw consent; appeal certain privacy-request decisions; and obtain information about our processing and disclosures. Additional rights may apply to consumer health data. To exercise a right that is not available through an in-app control, contact us at privacy@foodjournalplus.com. We may take reasonable steps to verify your identity and may retain information where permitted or required by law.
8. Age and eligibility
The FJP app and FJP accounts are intended only for people who are at least 18 years old. FJP does not offer access based on parental or guardian consent for anyone under 18.
Before a person can use the app, FJP confirms that the person meets the minimum age. When a device platform indicates that platform age assurance is applicable, FJP may request a privacy-preserving age range or age signal from the platform. FJP retains a limited record that adult eligibility was confirmed, including the confirmation method, applicable rules version, and time, but does not retain the platform age bounds, an under-age result, or a platform installation identifier for that eligibility process. An optional date of birth supplied for personalized nutrition setup is separate from the eligibility check and may be retained as part of the optional profile.
The FJP websites are not directed to children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18 through FJP, we will take reasonable steps to delete it, subject to applicable legal requirements.
9. Security
Rodriques Labs uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Depending on the feature, these safeguards include encrypted device-local storage, encrypted connections, authentication and access controls, and restrictions intended to limit server-side access to personnel and service providers with an operational need. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. App stores, service providers, and third parties
FJP may be distributed through Apple’s App Store, Google Play, or other approved channels and may use device-platform services and service providers to support hosting, storage, authentication, communications, security, and subscription functions. Third parties that independently determine how they handle information are governed by their own terms and privacy notices.
App Store privacy information, Google Play Data Safety disclosures, the Google Play Health Apps declaration, device-permission prompts, account-deletion information, and feature-specific notices may provide additional information about particular platforms or features. Those disclosures should be read together with this Privacy Policy.
11. United States availability
FJP is intended for initial availability in the United States, including all 50 states. It is not currently intended for initial offering outside the United States.
12. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Services, our practices, or applicable requirements change. We will revise the "Last updated" date and version, publish the current policy on the FJP legal website, and retain prior published versions or summaries of material changes through the Legal Update History. If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will provide additional notice and request acknowledgement or consent when required by law.
